While you have been sheltered in place, chances are you and your family have a few electronic devices that have turned into your new best friend. There is even a good chance you are reading this article on an electronic device. Are you wondering about the harmful effects of too much screen time?

I learned a great deal about these issues when I attended an international gathering of scientists and physicians in the summer of 2019. The conference presented the scientific data on adverse biologic effects of EMF’s and Radio-frequencies and what we can do to educate and protect ourselves and our communities. It was appalling and galvanizing! This information is critical especially now, in our post-COVID-19 world.[A]

With each passing year, we have an increased demand for technology and the use of high tech devices. This demand results in each one of us being exposed to high levels of man-made electromagnetic fields – also known as EMFs. Though not visible to the eye like smoke, and without an obvious smell like a harmful chemical, EMFs could have a very tangible, and unmistakable impact on your health.

What Are Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs)?

Electromagnetic fields (EMFs) are invisible fields of energy.1  EMFs are just like their name implies, EMFs are created when you combine an electric field with a magnetic field.

EMFs are actually a part of nature – we’ve been experiencing EMFs from the sun and the earth since the beginning of time and space. Even our own amazing bodies have these electrical and magnetic functions operating in them on a daily basis.

Did you realize every piece of technology we use today, generates electromagnetic fields?  Your everyday devices such as computers, televisions, cell phones, wireless connections, and Bluetooth generate EMFs. Some medical equipment such as X-rays and MRI’s are life-saving equipment but still offer up exposure to EMFs.  Our exposure today is far more than simply the sun and the earth.

What are the dangers of EMF exposure?

Part of what makes EMF exposure so dangerous is, its effects are not immediate, instead the damage accumulates over time. Two of the most notable conditions are cancer and neurological disorders.

Cancer

While today EMFs are currently identified as “possible carcinogens”. Many researchers are pushing for EMFs to have an upgraded classification of “known carcinogen” because studies have found evidence directly linking EMF exposure to an increased risk of, brain cancer, breast cancer, thyroid cancer, testicular cancer, and leukemia. 2

Neurological Deficits and Disorders

Did you know our brain and nervous system have their own electrical functions? They can be particularly susceptible to damage from EMFs. Researchers have found that EMF exposure can affect certain neurological functions and cause; fatigue, insomnia, depression, headaches, anxiety, and impaired memory. 345 EMFs can also lead to permanent and even more serious damage as well. For example, evidence has been found potentially linking EMFs to an increase in certain neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.6

How Do EMFs Cause Damage?

While the exact mechanism behind EMFs harmful effects is still a bit of a mystery, we can take an educated guess. It is likely due to a combination of factors:

An increase in harmful free radicals: Just for definition, free radicals are unstable atoms that impact chemical reactions in your body. You may have heard about the damage they do to our skin, on skincare commercials.  When levels are balanced they are necessary and help promote regeneration– but when they are imbalanced they can wreak havoc on your body.7

Oxidative stress: When there’s an imbalance and free radical levels are left unchecked, they cause damage which is known as oxidative stress. 8   Oxidative Stress is a major cause of chronic inflammation, together they are responsible for many age-related diseases.

Genetic damage: Oxidative stress can damage proteins, lipids, and even your DNA – which can alter the way your cells are able to reproduce.9

Volted Calcium Gated Channels (VCGC)- These are very important receptors that sit on cell membranes in white blood cells, the heart, the liver, blood vessels, the lungs are responsible for very important regulation of calcium influx into cells to turn on or off different cell functions. These particular receptors can be significantly disrupted causing changes to our immune, cardiovascular, respiratory, and neurologic systems. [16] Hmmm, sound familiar?

Are We Microwaving the Planet?

The advent of new technologies has brought about a new need for our antenna here on earth to work with tens of thousands of satellites in space. Seems like a movie doesn’t it?

Almost every large company has been working on getting these satellites in space. The most famous is Space X, Elon Musk’s company who has boasted publicly that as soon as they get 420 satellites in orbit, he will turn them on. More quietly, companies we use every day such as Amazon, Facebook, and Loon; a subsidiary of Google, are working to get their satellites up in space. Having these satellites linked to our phones, and corresponding towers around the world will turn all of our phones into satellite phones. That sounds great until you realize what it does to the earth and life here on our planet.

We are seeing significant disruptions in the earth’s magnetic field impacting birds and insects like bees and butterflies! This will also increase the amount of radiation on the ground. Comparatively, with only 66 satellites up in 1998, there was an increase in headaches, dizziness, nausea, insomnia, nosebleeds, heart palpitations, asthma attacks, and ringing in the ears that began that morning. Birds were not out flying, hawks were not out hunting, and thousands of homing pigeons lost their way.10

Once the concept of wireless “G” technology was initiated, we began exposing the global public to frequencies akin to microwaves at 1 billion cycles per second11 We have literally started microwaving our planet!

Why are scientists so concerned about 5G?

The International EMF Scientist Appeal specifically states  “Numerous recent scientific publications have shown that EMF affects living organisms at levels well below most international and national guidelines. Effects include increased cancer risk, cellular stress, increase in harmful free radicals, genetic damages, structural and functional changes of the reproductive system, learning and memory deficits, neurological disorders, and negative impacts on general well-being in humans. Damage goes well beyond the human race, as there is growing evidence of harmful effects to both plant and animal life.”

Over 180 scientists and doctors around the world have commented publicly, “We, the undersigned scientists, recommend a moratorium on the roll-out of the fifth generation, 5G until potential hazards for human health and the environment have been fully investigated by scientists independent from the industry.12 5G will substantially increase exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF)… and has been proven to be harmful to humans and the environment.”13

Why is this just now coming up?

Before when all we had was 2G, 3G, and 4G, radio frequencies were not something we gave much thought to, as they were not as harmful. We never worried whether or not our phones would cause neurological damage. However, “5G Cancer” may be the biggest threat. The cities of Brussels and Geneva have even blocked trials and banned upgrades to 5G out of an abundance of caution because they are concerned.

Recently the Federal Communications Commission, in partnership with the FDA and other health organizations, reaffirmed the radiofrequency radiation (RFR) exposure limits that the FCC adopted in the late 1990s.14These limits were based on research conducted in the 1980s. Since then, there have been more than 500 independent peer-reviewed studies that have found harmful effects from exposure.15

Due to this large body of clinical research, more than 240 scientists have signed The International EMF Scientist Appeal requesting stricter limits. 15  On June 6th of 2020, there will be a global protest. Learn more about the protest here

What is causing some concern in the scientific community, is that there is no compelling data on health risks; meaning this will be a large-scale public launch that has not been tested.

Natural and Holistic Ways to Protect Yourself From 5G.

The technology is already live in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and South Korea.  And we know that exposure to EMFs has the potential to be damaging to your health. It does not mean that you need to throw all your electronics out of the window. Your family might revolt! First of all, your best resource is yourself.  Stay informed and be proactive, the more focused on your health and diet, the more your body can defend itself against the challenges related to EMFs.  Let’s look at some simple steps you can take to minimize your exposure:

-Grounding  – having direct contact with the earth’s surface can help stabilize your electrical environment in your body.  Get outside barefoot, feel the grass beneath your feet. Feel the dirt on your toes. It feels wonderful and is beneficial for your health.

Advancements made in technology have noticeably improved our health and quality of life.
